King, Queen extend condolences to Teh Hong Piow’s family

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 13 — Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah have expressed Their Majesties’ condolences to the family of Tan Sri Teh Hong Piow who died yesterday.

A post on the Istana Negara Facebook account said Their Majesties expressed sadness at the passing of the founder of Public Bank Bhd and hoped that family members would be resilient in their moment of grief.

“Their Majesties greatly appreciate his contribution to the country’s banking and financial industry as well as the economy and described his passing as a great loss to the banking sector,” it said.

Teh, who was a giant within the banking fraternity, passed away at 10.20am at the age of 92.

He founded the bank in 1965 and has since overseen its evolution into a modern and integrated financial institution with a wide network of over 200 domestic and overseas branches.

Public Bank is one of the main banks in Malaysia.
