MB: Aid for victims, next of kin of landslide disaster to be channelled as soon as possible

SHAH ALAM, Dec 17 — Immediate assistance to the next of kin and other victims of the Batang Kali landslide will be distributed as soon as possible.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the assistance, announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last night, will be coordinated by the state government.

“With the PM’s announcement, the state government is grateful for the allocations which are to be given to the victims of the tragedy.

“This aid will be distributed as soon as possible. Hopefully, it will ease the burden of the victims and their families,” he said in a Facebook post.

Last night, Anwar announced RM10,000 for each family of victims who died and RM1,000 Bantuan Wang Ihsan to household heads of survivors.

The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) and the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) will channel the allocations to the state government, to be distributed to victims.

As of last night, 12 were reported to be still missing while 21 were confirmed dead out of a total of 94 victims in the incident.
