GOMBAK, Dec 19 — The Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) organised a programme to plant 25,000 trees throughout its administrative area on Saturday (December 17).

Its president Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi said the programme, in conjunction with the local authority’s 25th anniversary, aims to raise public awareness of the importance of environmental care.

“We planted 50 trees here, and the rest at 25 sites including one of Sime Darby’s areas (Elmina Business Park),” he said.

Mohd Yazid had attended the 25,000 Tree Planting Programme in Rawang earlier that day, which was officiated by Orang Besar Daerah Gombak Datuk Paduka Raja Tan Sri Datuk Wan Mahmood Pa’Wan Teh.

Meanwhile, the president said MPS’ programme this year is expected to be more lively next year, with over RM80 million for its expected total budget.

“Every year we allocate over RM50 million, but next year with an increase in the total budget, we expect more than RM80 million,” he added.
