Mrs Malaysia World 2022 enters records book

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5 (Bernama) – Olivia Nicholas, who will represent Malaysia at the Mrs World 2022 pageant in Las Vegas later this month, has already made it to the Malaysia Book of Records.

The 30-year-old lawyer from Ipoh, who was crowned Mrs Malaysia World 2022 in October, set a Malaysian record by wearing a national costume decorated with the most number of five-sen coins – 10,000 in number to be exact.

The national costume to be worn by Olivia at the Mrs World 2022 pageant on December 17 was unveiled here last night.

Olivia showcased the costume, which incorporated Sabah and Sarawak traditional elements, and created history in Malaysian pageantry as she appeared as the ‘Destar Siga’ Queen at the event which was also witnessed by representatives of the Malaysia Book of Records.

The five-sen coin has the motif of the ‘Destar Siga’ cloth, an indigenous form of weaved fabric that originated from the Kadazan Dusun community in Sabah and is used as a headdress during traditional ceremonies.

Sarawakian designer Saran Anak Lagong had fashioned the costume, said Datin Harveen Kaur, national director of Mrs Malaysia World Sdn Bhd.

Harveen Kaur said Olivia will compete with representatives from over 60 countries for the Mrs World 2022 coveted crown in Las Vegas from December 10 to 17.

She will be accompanied to the event by her husband Dr Sandeep Menon, she added.
