Number of evacuees drop as flood situation improves in Kelantan, Terengganu

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 27 — The flood situation in Kelantan and Terengganu continue to improve, while the number of evacuees has dropped slightly in Perak. The situation in Sabah and Sarawak, however, remains unchanged.

In Kelantan, the last relief centre in Tumpat district and one in Pasir Mas were closed today, leaving only three centres still open in Pasir Mas as of 4pm today.

The three centres are housing 209 people from 68 families compared to 718 people from 246 families in five centres this morning. From that total, 178 people are at SK Kedai Tanjong, Pusat Tarbiah Nasrullah Pohon Buloh (17) and SK Banggol Chicha (14).

In Terengganu, the number of evacuees in Besut dropped to 53 people from 12 families compared to 138 people from 41 families this morning. The relief centre at Balairaya Kampung Pantai was closed at 10am leaving only the centre at Kampung La Mosque still in operation in the district.

In Perak, the number of evacuees in Hilir Perak district dropped slightly to 50 people from 10 families from 60 people from 13 families this morning. They are being housed at Dewan SMK Abd Rahman Talib (Smart).

In Sabah, the number of evacuees in Kota Belut remained unchanged at 135 people from 56 families, with 62 people from 26 families being housed in Dewan Sekolah Kebangsaan Pekan, while Dewan SJK(C) Chung Hwa is housing the remaining 73 ppeoplefrom 30 families.

Meanwhile, the number of residents in coastal areas living on sstilthouses who were evacuated to relief centres in Sandakan and Pitas due to tidal surges rose slightly to 1,471 people from 303 families this evening compared to 1,454 people from 299 families this morning.

In Sarawak, 91 people remained in Dewan Masyarakat Kampung Lutong in Sebuyau and Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Rimba Padi in Serian.
