State ready to help private schools face new issues, streamline with education dept

GOMBAK, Dec 11 — The Selangor government is prepared to assist private schools in the state in resolving emerging problems to comply with the State Education Department, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Menteri Besar stated that in addition to the quality, content, and syllabus of education, some of the concerns being addressed are school admissions.

The matter is under observation because we have vocational education programmes in the state. We must consider how these (private) schools might function as a feeder for the current technical and vocational programmes we have offered,” he said after the launch of the Al-Amin Carnival at Kompleks Pusat Pendidikan Al-Amin in Batu 8, Jalan Sungai Pusu, here yesterday.

Amirudin added that the private schools in Selangor could also help reduce overcrowding in government schools.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said that the state administration is considering transferring a two-acre state-owned land located next to Kompleks Pusat Pendidikan Al-Amin to the private learning institution to expand its building.

“There is a request from Al-Amin to acquire some land and I am looking at the status (of the land). I don’t think there is any obstacle in helping give land to the school,” he said.

Some 1,000 people participated in the Al-Amin Carnival, yesterday, which offered various activities for the children as well as parents and teachers.

The carnival was held to raise funds to help meet the requirements of the school’s primary section in constructing a new four-story school building with a total cost of RM7.5 million.

A total of 1,200 students attend the secondary school and the primary school (two sessions) in Kompleks Pendidikan Al-Amin.
