Statewide inclement weather inbound until later tonight — MetMalaysia

SHAH ALAM, Dec 23 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has stated all of Selangor is expected to undergo strong weather until tonight.

In a statement issued at 5.15pm, the agency said other states and territories which will be similarly affected include Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

“Elsewhere, Bandar Baharu in Kedah, Penang (Seberang Perai Tengah dan Seberang Perai Selatan) and Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang dan Muallim) will also see heavy rains, strong winds, and thunderstorms,” it said.

The weather is expected to persist until 9pm.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
