SHAH ALAM, Jan 5 — The state government has identified five projects related to agriculture and food processing that will be developed in Sabak Bernam.

State executive councillor for investment Dato’ Teng Chang Khim said one of the projects under the Sabak Bernam Development Area (Sabda) will be implemented this year, thus opening up more economic opportunities for the region.

“The (development) site has been identified and we will continue discussions for the next step. All of the projects are related to agriculture and food processing.

“We expect at least one project could be implemented this year as Sabda is a huge project and it will take some time to be finalised,” he said when contacted.

Teng added that the project will be developed in collaboration with private parties by focusing on industries that have always been associated with the region.

“The main economic activity in Sabak Bernam is agriculture. Therefore, we will utilise that advantage to grow the district’s economy,” he added.

Sabda was included in the First Selangor Plan (RS-1), which was announced in July 2022, involving the development of high-value crops through the use of technology.

A total of RM1.9 billion will be invested in Sabda, involving an area of 1,317 hectares. The project is expected to generate an estimated revenue of RM248 million a year and create 3,600 job opportunities.
