Over 10,000 residents in Tanjong Sepat sign up for free insurance scheme

KUALA LANGAT, Jan 1 — Over 10,000 residents in Tanjong Sepat have registered for the Skim Insurans Am Selangor (Insan) as of to date.

Its state assemblyman Borhan Aman Shah said the people in the constituency welcome the initiative, which offers protection of up to RM10,000, and the number of recipients is expected to increase over time.

“We have channeled the information on Insan through the heads of villages and councillors who play their part to explain more about the insurance coverage.

“I have mobilised a team to set up registration counters at each programme held in the constituency to ease the folks who are not IT savvy and have no smartphone,” he said when met at Dataran Pantai Batu Laut, after visiting the Jualan Ehsan Rakyat Mega here yesterday.

Borhan also assured that the Orang Asli community would not be marginalised from benefitting from the insurance protection and the registration campaign would be expanded to reach the group.

“We will also focus on helping Orang Asli since they do not have internet access and have insufficient infrastructure. In fact, tonight (last night), I was invited by the Kampung Tanjung Sepat Orang Asli community to attend the new year celebration.

“Therefore, I will ask my team to set up the registration counter for Insan’s registration,” he said.

Meanwhile, Borhan added that his constituency has allocated 400 shopping vouchers for the Chinese community there.

He said the RM200 worth of Jom Shopping vouchers will be distributed to eligible recipients in stages.

“This time, they can purchase essential items at mini markets in Tanjung Sepat compared to last year, where they have to go to Banting, which took nearly one hour drive, to utilise the vouchers.

“It is easier for them to use the vouchers at nearby mini mart. Hopefully, the vouchers would be able to ease their burden to prepare for the Chinese New Year celebration,” he said.

In the 2023 Selangor Budget, the state government allocated RM16.48 million for the Jom Shopping vouchers that will benefit 82,400 recipients.
