GOMBAK, Jan 15 — Over 300 Chinese residents in the Sungai Tua state constituency have received Jom Shopping vouchers in conjunction with Chinese New Year today.

Gombak Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) leader Husaini Yunos said the vouchers worth RM200 each can be redeemed at selected supermarkets to prepare for the upcoming celebrations and buy essentials.

“Today I am representing the Menteri Besar of Selangor, who is also Gombak MP and Sungai Tua state assemblyman to deliver this donation.

“Indeed, every year we hold programmes like this and the response from visitors who attend is very encouraging,” he said after presenting the shopping vouchers to the recipients at Pasaraya Giant, Batu Caves.

Husaini said a total of 400 vouchers were available to be given to eligible recipients in the state constituency.

“In addition, the Sungai Tua state assembly Chinese New Year open house is expected to be organised next week,” he said.

The 2023 Selangor Budget has allocated RM16.48 million for the Jom Shopping voucher programme in conjunction with festivities which will benefit 82,400 recipients.

The programme is an aid that is implemented in conjunction with three major festivals, namely, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year and Deepavali to ease the burden of low-income families to buy essential goods.

The voucher value has also increased from RM100 to RM200 following economic situation and the needs of the people.
