Selangor yet to decide on zero plastic bags — Exco

By Suhaila Shahrul Annuar

KAJANG, Jan 6 — The Selangor government is still gathering feedback and information on the use of plastic bags at business premises from consumers and other relevant parties.

State executive councillor for environment Hee Loy Sian said that changes to the policy of charging plastic bags and the implementation of the zero plastic bag campaign have not yet been decided.

“We have yet to discuss the proposal as we are waiting for data and feedback from consumers.

“When the procedure is over, only then will we discuss raising the charges or tightening up enforcement. For now, everything remains the same,” he said.

Previously, the state government reportedly planned to review the policy of charging plastic bags and to entirely ban the use of plastic bags at business premises by 2025.

However, the move depends on whether there is a more suitable method for replacing plastic bags.
