MB: Six states to hold discussion next week on dissolution of state assemblies

By Sheeda Fathil

KLANG, Feb 18 — The date of the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly of six states would be discussed next week by five Menteris Besar and one Chief Minister, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor Menteri Besar said that the meeting would be held sometime during the meeting of the Conference of Rulers, which starts on Monday.

“The official meeting will be held on one of the days during the Conference of Rulers Meeting, which will be either on Wednesday or Thursday.

“I will get in touch with the EC (Election Commission) so they may join in on the discussion.

“I am convinced that they (EC) would be pleased to discuss the matter since this is one of the efforts to lessen their load rather than having to organise the elections separately,” he said when met after an event at Warung Kukus in Jalan Tepi Sungai, here today.

The discussion is intended to reach an agreement on the dissolution of the state assemblies to facilitate the EC in determining the ideal date for the state elections involving six states to be held simultaneously.

The states involved are Selangor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah and Penang.
