Govt steps up promotion to boost export of rubber products

KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 — The Plantation and Commodities Ministry (KPK) through the Malaysian Rubber Council (MRC) is actively drawing up and implementing promotional activities to increase the export of high-value rubber products such as rubber gloves, tyres and latex mattresses, said Its deputy minister Datuk Siti Aminah Aching.

She said the products were promoted through promotional activities abroad such as international trade fairs, trade missions and business matching, educational seminars and advertising.

“These promotional activities not only cover major markets such as the United States and Europe, but also countries with high populations and great potentials such as China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Mexico, Brazil, Russia, South Africa, Colombia, Poland, the Philippines, Pakistan and Turkey,” she said.

She said this in replying to a question from Ledang MP Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh regarding the steps taken by the ministry in managing the rubber floor price issue that burdens rubber farmers during the question and answer session in the Dewan Rakyat, today.

Siti Aminah said the initiatives and promotions that were undertaken had increased the demand for local natural rubber and led to an increase in the rubber floor price.

Meanwhile, replying to a supplementary question from Syed Ibrahim’ about the government’s efforts to increase the involvement of young people in the rubber industry, Siti Aminah said the ministry has implemented various initiatives to improve the knowledge of the youth in estate management.
