Higher Education Ministry to submit application to resume MyBrain15 prog

KUALA LUMPUR, March 30 — The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) will submit another application for allocation under the 4th Rolling Plan of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) to resume the MyBrain15 programme, the Dewan Negara was told today.

Deputy Minister Datuk Mohammad Yusof Apdal said the MOHE would resubmit the application for allocation for the postgraduate scholarship programme under the 4th rolling plan after it was rejected under the first three rolling plans of the 12MP.

“MOHE has implemented two MyBrain programmes, namely MyBrain15 and MyBrain Science. The MyBrain15 programme is open to various fields of study at the Master’s and PhD levels and was implemented from December 1, 2010, under the 10MP and 11MP until the last offer made in 2016.

“The MyBrain Science programme, on the other hand, was introduced in 2012, offering scholarships for both undergraduates and postgraduates in pure science fields, and is still being implemented now,” he said in reply to Senator Wan Martina Wan Yusoff during Question Time.

Wan Martina wanted to know whether the government was planning to reopen the application for MyBrain scholarships to tertiary students in fields other than pure science.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Yusop said the government had identified 3,886 MyBrain scholars who had failed to complete their studies.

“MyBrain scholars are required to sign a sponsorship agreement with the government, and if they failed to complete their studies, they will be subject to compensation claims based on the actual costs incurred by the government throughout their studies,” he added.
