Selangor sends various basic necessities to help Johor flood victims

SHAH ALAM, March 5 — Bantuan Kita Selangor Penyayang (Our Compassionate Selangor Aid) mission has sent a variety of basic necessities such as food, drinks, hygiene kits, clothes and disposable diapers to Johor flood victims yesterday.

The essential items were sent to the Disaster Needs Storage Depot (South Zone), Muar, to facilitate delivery to flood victims.

The mission was led by the State Disaster Management Unit (UPBN) (Management Services) Divisional secretary Muhammad Hanafi Ahmad and was joined by various other agencies such as the Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI, Team Selangor volunteers and the Social Welfare Department (JKM).

In addition, the Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM), Petaling Jaya Municipal Council (MBPJ), Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) also participated.

According to the UPBN statement, a total of 1,000 food items and 1,000 hygiene kits were handed over, including 418 food baskets, 200 five-kilogram rice packs, adult and children’s disposable diapers, slippers, adult and children’s clothing, mineral water and many more.

The group which left at 12.45 in the afternoon arrived in Muar at 2.30 in the afternoon and was welcomed by Johor JKM officers, led by Muar District Social Welfare officer Khairul Asri Ismail.

“The mission was accompanied by 53 members involving four trucks, a van and 11 four-wheel drives.

“The unloading operation started at 2.45pm and finished at 3.30pm before all agencies dispersed and left for their respective destinations at 3.45pm,” said the statement.

Meanwhile, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said a team of volunteers, including the Selangor Volunteers (Serve), was mobilised to flooded locations in Johor to help clean up and restore the area.

He said Selangor is ready to send boats and other assets if necessary and added that he is will be participating in the second round of the Bantuan Kita Penyayang Selangor mission after the floods have receded

Amirudin said the Bantuan Kita Selangor Penyayang mission yesterday to deliver basic necessities is the first action taken because of the urgent need at the moment.
