Microsoft reports third-quarter results with revenue, net income increases

SAN FRANCISCO, April 26 — Microsoft posted on Tuesday its revenue of US$52.9 billion (RM235.9 billion) for the third quarter of the 2023 fiscal year ending March 31, up seven per cent from the same period last year, reported Xinhua.

The company generated a quarterly net income of US$18.3 billion (RM81.63 billion), an increase of nine per cent year on year, while diluted earnings per share went up 10 per cent to US$2.45. Its operating income was US$22.4 billion (RM99.92 billion) and increased 10 per cent, Microsoft said in its financial report for the third quarter of fiscal 2023.

The company’s revenue in Productivity and Business Processes was US$17.5 billion (RM78.06 billion), an increase of 11 per cent; its revenue in Intelligent Cloud was US$22.1 billion (RM98.58 billion) and increased by 16 per cent; and revenue in More Personal Computing was US$13.3 billion (RM59.33 billion), a nine per cent decrease year on year.

Microsoft returned US$9.7 billion (RM43.27 billion) to shareholders in the form of share repurchases and dividends in the quarter, compared to US$12.4 billion (RM55.31 billion) in the same period of fiscal 2022.

“The world’s most advanced AI models are coming together with the world’s most universal user interface — natural language — to create a new era of computing,” said Satya Nadella, chairman and chief executive officer of Microsoft.

“Across the Microsoft Cloud, we are the platform of choice to help customers get the most value out of their digital spend and innovate for this next generation of AI,” he said.
