SHAH ALAM, April 19 — The Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah paid a visit to the nearly-completed Menara Merdeka 118’s construction site in the city centre of Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

His Highness arrived at the soon-to-be tallest building in Southeast Asia (and the second tallest in the world at a height of 678.9 metres), and was accompanied by PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn Bhd’s Chief Executive Officer Tengku Datuk Ab Aziz Tengku Mahmud.

Also accompanying Tengku Amir was Permodalan Nasional Berhad’s Chief Investment, Private and Strategic Investment Officer Rizal Rickman Ramli.

His Highness was on a tour of the 116th floor, the highest observation deck of its kind in the region, as well as a visit to the Stadium Merdeka restoration site.

“Menara Merdeka 118 will be the first building in Malaysia to have three platinum green building accreditations on the local and international levels, including the Green Building Index (GBI), Green Real Estate (GreenRE), and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).

“Tengku Amir expressed excitement and admiration over the tower’s development method, particularly the research into conservation efforts and the restoration of the Stadium Merdeka historic site, as well as adapting the development of modern, sustainable and environmentally-friendly elements,” said Selangor Royal Office in a Facebook post.

It added that PNB also carried out conservation work to restore Stadium Merdeka to its original state as it was in 1957, in collaboration with the Malaysian Heritage Agency and the National Heritage Department.

As the sole owner of Stadium Merdeka and Stadium Negara, PNB has taken the initiative to maintain both historical sites.
