Syawal Madani sale records RM14 mln in sales — Fama

SEREMBAN, April 20 — The Syawal Madani Sale held at 113 locations across the country has recorded RM14 million in sales within six days since it was launched on April 15.

Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) acting director-general Abdul Rashid Bahri said the figure increased by 20 per cent compared to last year, involving the participation of 2,680 local entrepreneurs.

“We reached the target of RM13 million two days ago, and today is the last day of this programme. We have no problem with the supply of meat, chicken and vegetables. Everything is sufficient to meet consumer needs for Aidilfitri.

“We also received good cooperation from state governments so people can get fresh produce at a lower price. For example, today we offer one whole chicken at a price of RM13 each,” he told reporters here today.

Abdul Rashid said in Negeri Sembilan alone, 500 entrepreneurs have benefited from the programme, with RM417,000 in sales value recorded.

The Syawal Madani Sale, held in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri, offers a variety of daily necessities at a lower price of up to 30 per cent compared to regular markets.

Meanwhile, Perak Fama aims to generate RM400,000 in sales through the Syawal Madani Sale held at 10 locations this year.

State Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture and Food Industries Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun said the programme provided market space to over 400 entrepreneurs and benefited 40,000 visitors.

“Approximately two tonnes of meat, two tonnes of chicken and 400 cartons of eggs are sold at attractive prices at these 10 locations.

“In welcoming the Syawal month, Fama is organising the Syawal Madani Sale at Perak RTC to enable customers to get essential goods at reasonable prices,” he said in a statement.

He added that various types of fresh agricultural products and agro-food are available such as vegetables, fruits, chicken and eggs, apart from processed products such as biskut raya, rendang tok and dodol.
