Family gets ‘new’ home after living in poor conditions for 20 years

KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 — After struggling with poor living conditions for the past 20 years, a family will now enjoy a better life at their newly renovated home at Sri Penara Flat, Bandar Sri Permaisuri, thanks to the Rumah Kasih Harapan Kak Wan programme.

Hamidah Moin, 63, who received the house keys from Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail today, said the aid provided by the Bandar Tun Razak MP has helped ease the burden of her family, especially in maintaining the house.

The mother of three, including one with learning disabilities, has been collecting scrap metal to help her husband, who works in a shopping centre, to cover their family’s daily expenses.

“I am happy with the updated condition of the house. It is more comfortable to live in now. Thank you, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah,” she told reporters after the house key handover ceremony.

The pilot programme was organised by the Bandar Tun Razak MP’s Office, in collaboration with Yayasan Gerbang Bandar Tun Razak as one of the strategic partners.

Meanwhile, Dr Wan Azizah, who is also the Prime Minister’s wife, said the programme is aimed at helping B40 homeowners living in uncomfortable conditions.

“I believe it will help fulfil the needs of low and middle-income families living around the Bandar Tun Razak area.

“The concept of Malaysia MADANI must be translated into efforts until it reaches the people in need so that they too can enjoy a comfortable life,” she said.

In the meantime, Yayasan Gerbang Bandar Tun Razak chairman Azman Abidin said the programme would be expanded to other housing areas in the constituency, including the Sri Pulau Pinang Public Housing, to assist Chinese and Indian residents from the B40 group.
