Guidelines on micromobility vehicles route plan to undergo one-year test, focus on user safety

SHAH ALAM, May 23 — The government plans to conduct a one-year testing phase for the guidelines on the Micromobility Vehicles Route Plans, says Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah.

He said Shah Alam will be the testing ground for micromobility vehicles and all aspects of the guidelines, including user safety and other factors affecting road users, will be thoroughly assessed.

“The year-long field test, which will be conducted in Shah Alam, will mostly involve small roads within parks. Currently, micromobility vehicles are only permitted in playgrounds and are not allowed on public roads.

“This matter is still undergoing a comprehensive study to address safety concerns on public roads. Eventhough the roads are small but other roads users still poses risks to micromobility vehicle users,” he stated in response to a question from Kampar MP Chong Zhemin in the Dewan Rakyat earlier today.

He further added that the same study will also determine the allocation of bicycle lanes before issuing comprehensive guidelines in collaboration with the Local Government and Housing Development Ministry.

Previously, Hasbi had announced that Shah Alam, through the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), had been chosen as the designated testing ground for micromobility vehicles.
