SHAH ALAM, May 30 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has launched the PJKita Community Centre at The Spine @ PJKita in Jalan SS7/15, Kelana Jaya, on Sunday.

Its mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said the centre serves as a place for residents to showcase and promote innovative projects and organise community programmes.

He said the centre has facilities and sustainable products guided by the 10 themes under the Petaling Jaya Smart, Sustainable, and Resilient 2030 Action Plan (PJSSR2030).

“Under the themes of Smart Community and Smart City 5.0, MBPJ provides two container spaces for the community to showcase smart technology and Internet of Things (IoT) projects on a rotating basis for six months,” he said in a statement.

Mohamad Azhan said that MBPJ representatives from various departments are directly involved with the residents and a payment kiosk is provided for assessment tax, rental, and compound payments.

Other facilities include a mini library, tuition centre, and the PJ SEED Learning Center (Petaling Jaya Sustainable Community Grant) complete with Wi-Fi access, and the first-ever drive-through recycling centre in Petaling Jaya.

He also stated that under the Child-Friendly City theme, the centre provides a children’s council office equipped with discussion rooms and meeting spaces on the upper level.

“MBPJ is committed to revitalizing the local economy, and therefore, the seven cafés are managed by Petaling Jaya residents, while several disabled entrepreneurs also operate businesses here,” he added.

On Sunday, Mohamad Azhan launched The Spine @ PJKita community centre, which was fully completed in 2021 at a cost of nearly RM3.5 million.

Based on zero energy and sustainable development concepts, the centre is also equipped with energy monitoring devices to detect excessive energy usage.
