Statewide road resurfacing works has started in May — Exco

SHAH ALAM, May 16 — Massive road resurfacing works throughout the state have begun this month, says state executive councillor for infrastructure and public amenities Izham Hashim.

He said that the RM50 million project is carried out thoroughly in Selangor to improve the convenience of road users.

“We have over 20,000 roads to manage, and it is quite challenging due to the high volume of vehicles. The frequent use of roads, combined with soft soil conditions, make it easer for the roads to be damaged.

“That is why we allocate over RM500 million annually to road management. This year, we have added RM50 million to resurface roads that have been abandoned and poorly maintained,” he said in an interview on TV1’s Selamat Pagi Malaysia programme, today.

On January 16, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced a mega road paving project, which includes maintenance and widening of state-managed roads.

The Menteri Besar also encouraged the public to report damaged roads in their communities through the Twitter application by sending pictures, writing complaints, and including the hashtags #infrasel #daerah #namajalan.

From 2021 until last year, state-owned road maintenance company Infrasel Sdn Bhd (Infrasel) has carried out over 39,000 road resurfacing works in the state.

All potholed roads were repaired within 24 hours based on public complaints.
