SUNGAI SIPUT, June 3 — The Human Resources Ministry (KSM) is planning to use a modular course approach to attract the interest of Orang Asli youths to participate in its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.
Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar said the long courses and training were found to be among the reasons the Orang Asli youths shied away from participating in TVET programmes.
The modular method will allow participants to acquire a certain skill within the first two months, before continuing to learn other skills.
“Through the modular method, they will be able to acquire some skills after the first two months, and with the skills, they may be able to get a job before joining other courses to learn other skills,” he said at the TVET and Orang Asli Career Programme at the Bawong Orang Asli One Stop Center (OAOSC), earlier today.
Sivakumar said the ministry also planned to use the in-situ method, which is to hold the courses in Orang Asli settlement areas, to encourage more of them to participate in the programme.
On the programme today, he said the participants were exposed to various skills, such as electrical technology, scaffolding, culinary and pastry, make-up and hairdressing, as well as handicraft production.
The participants were also given the opportunity to use the equipment brought by the exhibitors to increase their understanding and interest in the respective fields.
