MB: RM18 bln investment value in 2018, best record in 30 years

SHAH ALAM, June 25 – Selangor recorded an investment value of up to RM18 billion in 2018, marking a significant achievement in 30 years of the state administration, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari

Taking a jibe at his predecessor Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, who has now defected and assumed the role of Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief, the Selangor Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) chairman said that Azmin failed to attract significant investments during his tenure as the Menteri Besar.

“After you were no longer the Menteri Besar, we achieved a whopping RM18 billion in investment. Despite being in charge of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Azmin didn’t know how investments work.

“During his tenure as Menteri Besar, the investment value was only between RM5 billion and RM7 billion,” said Amirudin during the launch of Selangor Harapan election machinery at Dataran Kemerdekaan, here last night.

Amirudin also reminded Azmin of the latter’s defeat in the 15th general elections (GE15) when they went head to head for the Gombak parliamentary seat.

This exchange occurred in response to Azmin’s earlier remark, reminding Amirudin that his appointment as Selangor Menteri Besar was due to Azmin’s influence.

“Don’t forget, Min (Mohamed Azmin), I defeated you six months ago,” said Amirudin in a retort, which drew cheers from Harapan supporters.

In the GE15 last November, Amirudin snatched the seat previously held by Mohamed Azmin for three terms with a majority of 12,729 votes.

Meanwhile, in the event with a crowd of over 2,000 people last night, Amirudin unveiled the
#arusmerahkuning theme for the upcoming state election.

Amirudin also flagged off a convoy of five four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles symbolising his administration’s journey throughout this term, followed by a procession of 56 motorcycles carrying Harapan flags representing each state constituency.

On Friday, the 14th Selangor state assembly was officially dissolved, paving the way for the upcoming state polls.

Selangor is one of the six states set to hold the state elections, along with Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

In the 14th general election (GE14), Harapan dominated Selangor by winning 51 out of 56 seats, followed by Barisan Nasional (BN) and PAS with four and one seats respectively.

Prior to the dissolution of the state assembly, the seat distribution saw Harapan holding 40 seats, with PKR having 19 seats, DAP 15 seats, and Amanah six seats.

Barisan Nasional holds five seats, followed by Bersatu with four seats, Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) with two seats, and PAS, Pejuang, and Warisan with one seat each. Additionally, there is one Independent representative.

The Batang Kali state seat was declared vacant in February as the elected representative did not attend the state assembly for more than six months.
