MNCF welcomes Mamat’s readiness to help track squad

NILAI, June 17 — The Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) welcomes the intention of road cyclist Mohd Harrif Saleh to help strengthen the track squad if his services are needed.

MNCF president Datuk Abu Samah Abd Wahab said Mohd Harrif, more fondly called Mamat, has the potential to represent the track squad based on the extensive experience possessed by the 34-year-old sprint specialist.

“Personally I see Harrif as an exceptional rider who is quite experienced, especially in road racing competitions. It was proven when he won tour races abroad including in Europe.

“He has also won several stages of the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) in addition to winning the SEA Games gold medal. It’s just that now he is bound by his duties with TSG (Terengganu Cycling Team) team,” he said in a statement today.

Yesterday, Mohd Harrif, who is also the 2007 Asian Track Cycling Championship (ACC) scratch event champion, said that although his main focus at the moment is on road racing competitions with TSG, he is still ready to help the track squad if needed.

He finished eighth out of 15 riders in the 2023 ACC men’s elimination race here on Thursday (June 15) when returning to the track event after 11 years.
