On-demand transit van service to roll out in densely populated areas — Exco

SHAH ALAM, June 22 — The state government will expand the on-demand transit van service (DRT), particularly in densely populated areas, following positive feedback from the public.

State executive councillor for public transportation Ng Sze Han said DRT is a flexible form of transportation with high user accessibility, especially in narrow routes where Smart Selangor Bus cannot pass through.

“The initiative under Selangor Mobility is expected to improve accessibility to public transportation.

“After this, the DRT service will be expanded to other areas to benefit more users,” he said after trying out the DRT Mobi service at the Light Rail Transit (LRT) SS15 station, here yesterday.

Ng said under the state initiative, two companies were selected as service providers for the DRT pilot project.

“We are starting with these two companies first, and hopefully more companies offering such services will step forward,” he said.

DRT Mobi is a public transportation service provided by Badanbas Coach Sdn Bhd, covering 265 locations around Subang Jaya.

Users can book DRT services through the Mobi app, with a fixed fare of RM4 per trip or a monthly subscription plan as low as RM3.63 per trip to their nearest stop.

The state government has allocated RM3 million for Phase One of Selangor Mobility, including on-demand van DRT services through the smart routing application.

On June 15, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that Selangor Mobility would be expanded to eight zones by September, focusing on densely populated areas and the need for access to narrow routes.

Not only focusing on transportation modes, the Menteri Besar said that the initiative also involves other infrastructure such as bus stops, micro-mobility, and e-scooters.

The DRT service provides the first and last-mile connectivity issue through a smart application, complementing efforts towards the Smart State vision 2025.

The Selangor Budget 2023 allocates RM25 million to strengthen the public transportation system under the Selangor Mobility programme, with RM22 million given to 11 local authorities to continue the operations of the Smart Selangor buses.
