Selangor pledges to ensure public can own quality homes

By Suhaila Shahrul Annuar

SHAH ALAM, June 21 — The state government remains committed to ensuring more people can own quality and comfortable homes through various initiatives such as the Rumah Selangorku 3.0 policy.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said other programmes like the Smart Rental Scheme were also introduced with the primary goal of allowing the public not only to own a house, but one that is conducive.

“Otherwise, we will only create new slum areas,” he said during a live TikTok programme hosted by Media Selangor on Monday night.

“This is why there are various measures that we have and are currently implementing, and which will be improved in the future.”

Commenting further, Amirudin noted that Rumah Selangorku 3.0 has capped the price of affordable housing at RM250,000.

“That is the controlled price. So far, about 60,000 units have been approved for development. Of these, about 4,500 have been completed, 7,000 are undergoing construction and the rest are in the planning approval stage.”

Previously, executive councillor for housing Rodziah Ismail said the state government was targeting the development of 60,000 units of homes by 2025 under Rumah Selangorku 3.0, with 83,603 applications recorded as of February 1.

The Smart Rental Scheme, meanwhile, allows low and medium income earners who could not afford Rumah Selangorku to own a house.

It provides families the option of renting a housing unit for a period of between two and five years, after which 30% of the rental paid will be returned to help fund the deposit for a new house.
