SHAH ALAM, June 15 – Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has reaffirmed that the Raw Water Security Scheme (SJAM), which will begin operation later this year, will guarantee continuous water supply to millions of households in the Klang Valley.
In a Facebook post, Amirudin reiterated the project’s importance in safeguarding water security for the state and serving as a proactive measure to protect its water assets.
“With the implementation of SJAM, the water supply will continue to be enhanced and improved, especially in cases of pollution and unscheduled disruptions.
“SJAM has been planned and implemented since 2020, with an expected completion date around October of this year. Subsequently, through a trial process involving operational simulations, it is anticipated to be fully functional by early next year.
“This project is crucial in meeting the needs of 1.6 million accounts, involving seven million users, in addition to the industrial sector,” he said.
Previously, it was reported that the state government has allocated RM332 million in its 2023 budget for the SJAM project.
This funding includes RM100 million dedicated to ensuring the continuous operation of water treatment plants in case of pollution incidents.
Additionally, the scheme encompasses strategic measures such as amending the Selangor Water Management Board (Luas) Enactment and implementing river basin surveillance through the Luas Rapid Squad.
