Almost 900 secure jobs through Selangor JobCare in 2022, more expected this year

SHAH ALAM, July 3 — A total of 892 participants successfully secured a job through the Selangor Jelajah Jaminan Kerja (JobCare) programme organised by the Selangor Workers’ Empowerment Unit (UPPS) last year.

UPPS chief coordinator S. Vijayan said the figure serves as a positive sign in the state’s continuous effort to reduce its unemployment rate, which currently stands at 2.6 per cent.

“It is estimated that between 90 and 100 individuals from each district were offered jobs in various fields. As such, we consider the first JobCare series last year a success, what more with jobs hard to come by at the time.

“We hope the figure will increase through this year’s edition, in line with the call by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari to maintain the unemployment rate below three per cent,” he said when contacted.

This year’s iteration in nine districts starting July 22 offers 20,000 job opportunities for the people of Selangor, compared to just 3,000 in its first edition last year.

The initiative, which is organised in cooperation with the Social Security Organisation, will be participated by 120 local companies from various sectors, including manufacturing, tourism and transport.

Other than the job fair, Vijayan said UPPS also conducted hybrid and face-to-face interviews at its office in Ideal Convention Centre last year.

He said about 2,000 job seekers took part in this initiative.
