Eco-haven park Mangrove Point opens its doors to the public

SHAH ALAM, July 27 — State subsidiary Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB) opened the Mangrove Point ecotourism and educational centre in Klang yesterday, in conjunction with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, which falls on July 26.

Offering visitors an idyllic retreat from the urban hustle and bustle, it enables immersion in the embrace of nature by featuring a carefully crafted one-kilometre boardwalk loop, allowing them to explore the lush mangrove forest alongside Sungai Klang.

Thoughtfully positioned resting spaces along the walkways encourage visitors to pause, reflect and appreciate the surrounding natural beauty. Observation decks specially designed for bird watching provide an up-close encounter with the vibrant avian life inhabiting Mangrove Point.

Visitors may also be able to observe large mudskippers and striking blue crabs along the swamp floor. Meanwhile, fishing enthusiasts can indulge in their passion at the dedicated angler’s deck, providing an unparalleled spot to cast their lines and unwind.

LLSB’s managing director Syaiful Azmen Nordin said the company expects Mangrove Point to become a premier educational and ecotourism hub in Klang.

“Mangrove Point, as one of the four catalyst projects under the Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG), will not only nurture a profound understanding of the environment but also educate and foster sustainable practices among visitors, to safeguard our cherished rivers and mangroves,” he said in a statement.

Syaiful Azmen added the park’s development further strengthens LLSB’s commitment to transforming Sungai Klang into a sustainable development which embraces biodiversity.

“Through immersion in the beauty of Mangrove Point, our ultimate aim is to cultivate a new generation of passionate environmental stewards. We encourage not just members of the public to visit, but also welcome tour and cruise operators to add Mangrove Point to their itineraries for tourists,” he said.

Recognised by the Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia in the prestigious Malaysia Landscape Architecture Awards in 2019 for Landscape Analysis and Study, Mangrove Point exemplifies the implementation of sustainable landscape design practices which prioritise the preservation of depleting mangrove ecosystems nationwide.

In line with SMG’s commitment to inclusivity, most areas of Mangrove Point are designed to be accessible to individuals with disabilities, particularly those with limited mobility, ensuring that more can fully enjoy the wonders of this unique environment. From nature enthusiasts to families of all ages, visitors from all walks of life are invited to explore this extraordinary biophilic haven from 10am to 5pm daily with free entry, along Jalan Gerudi, Kawasan 14, 42000, Port Klang, Selangor.
