AMPANG JAYA, July 1 – Selangor has established itself as Malaysia’s economic powerhouse, with a contribution to the national gross domestic product (GDP) of 25.5 per cent in 2022, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Menteri Besar highlighted the impressive achievement during the Ziarah Korban Aidiladha tour at Kampung Pasir in Hulu Kelang, Gombak, today.

Accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad, Amirudin arrived at the programme, organised in collaboration with Yayasan Selangor, at 9.30am.

The Gombak MP received a warm welcome from Yayasan Selangor chief executive officer Eddie Ahmad Khodzali and Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) president Dr Ani Ahmad.

At the event, Amirudin took the chance to share the state’s positive development with the residents, shedding light on Selangor’s significant contribution to the country’s GDP.

“I am delighted to be here today with the locals and to celebrate our achievements. Selangor has witnessed a remarkable contribution to the GDP at 25.5 per cent, while also recording the highest number of tourists in 2022,” he said.

Amirudin expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to share the good news during the festive season and emphasised the active participation of the many different societal groups in the korban activities (sacrificial rites).

He said the group effort represents Selangor’s successful journey towards economic recovery, which overcame several challenges faced by the state.

The incumbent Sungai Tua state representative noted that such activities are significant in strengthening the communities and encouraged them to keep being outstanding, resilient, and united citizens who could overcome any challenges.

Before he visited the korban programme in Kampung Pasir, Amirudin visited Surau Estana Court in Kampung Pasir, and Masjid As-Sobirin Lembah Keramat, engaging with the local community.

Selangor has continued being the highest contributor to Malaysia’s GDP at 25.5 per cent last year, representing a growth of 0.7 per cent compared to 2021.

This notable growth represents Selangor’s largest contribution to the country’s GDP since Pakatan Harapan, formerly Pakatan Rakyat, took office in Selangor in 2008.

According to a report by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), Selangor’s economic growth exceeded the national growth rate by an impressive margin of 3.2 per cent, recording a growth rate of 11.9 per cent, while the national growth rate stood at 8.7 per cent.

Selangor’s exceptional performance in driving Malaysia’s economy forward further solidifies its reputation as the thriving economic hub of the nation, poised to continue its trajectory of growth and development in the years to come.
