No new song for state polls campaign, says rapper Altimet

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 — Rap artist Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad, casually known as Altimet said he will not be releasing a new song in conjunction with the Selangor state election.

The Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) candidate for the Lembah Jaya state seat produced ‘Aduh Malaysia’, used as the Harapan anthem during the 15th general election (GE15).

“Perhaps we will release another song that is unrelated to this (state polls),” he told reporters after the nomination process at Dewan Dato Ahmad Razali, Ampang here today.

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) Ampang division chief is facing a straight fight against Sharifah Haslizah Syed Ariffin of Perikatan Nasional (PN) who is also the Selangor PAS Muslimat Council member.

The 44-year-old celebrity said he wanted to make Lembah Jaya a liveable place for people from all walks of life and help residents get incentives and assistance offered by the state government.

Meanwhile, Sharifah Haslizah or Cikgu Sharifah said she was undaunted by the competition even though the constituency is considered Keadilan’s stronghold.

Having served as a councillor for the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) in 2013 she said she is a familiar face among the residents.

In the 14th General Election (GE14), Haniza Talha of Keadilan won the seat with a majority of 14,790 votes defeating Muhamad Nizam from Barisan Nasional (BN), Khasim Abdul Aziz (PAS) and Norizwan Mohamed (Parti Rakyat Malaysia).

The state election’s youngest candidate, Melanie Ting, fielded by the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance Party (Muda) to contest the Bukit Antarabangsa seat is involved in a three-cornered fight against Sasha Lyna Abdul Latif (PN) and Mohd Kamri Kamaruddin (Harapan).

The 23-year-old lass said she would serve people from all walks of life, not just the youths, while Mohd Kamri, a former engineer, said he would focus on environmental issues in his campaign, which has always been the concern of Bukit Antarabangsa residents.

In the GE14, former Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali who was representing Keadilan won the seat with a majority of 25,512 votes defeating Salwa Yunus (BN), Sharifah Haslizah (PAS), Ahmad Kamarudin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and independent candidate, Azwan Ali.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg were seen spending time with Harapan and BN supporters outside Dewan Dato Ahmad Razali before the announcement of candidates was made.

The Election Commission has set today as the nomination day and August 12 as the polling date for the polls in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, with early voting on August 8.
