BANTING, July 9 — The Digital Economy Centre (PEDi) has helped an entrepreneur who runs a pastry and bakery business in Kampung Sungai Lang to earn almost RM70,000 a month.
The owner of Brilliant Chocolate, Mazliana Mohein, 45, said PEDi’s role in helping promote her products and business location was evident, as the amount of profit she earnes now had increased tenfold since joining the programmes implemented at the centre eight years ago.
The mother-of-four said when she started off her business, she was only able to earn around RM6,500 a month before she came to know of PEDi Kampung Kundang and PEDi Kanchong Darat, to promote her business online.
“Sometime in 2015, I started promoting bakery products using the services on PEDi and my income continued to increase to RM30,000 that year, and I was even awarded the Best Internet Entrepreneur in 2017 for the Central Region.
“Learning how to promote my bakery products has definitely changed my business. Before, I only had two staff, but now it has increased to seven people,” she said when met by Bernama at PEDi Kanchong Darat in conjunction with the PEDi Community Day which was attended by Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil.
Mazliana said apart from teaching participants and entrepreneurs how to use social media to promote products, the centre also showed them how to use applications to produce videos to market their products for free.
“The staff here help us from the point of not knowing anything until we are able to produce our own videos. In fact, I also refer to them if I am not sure about something related to the computer system,” she said.
Earlier in his speech, Fahmi said all PEDi established under the supervision of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) were equipped with Internet access, and also provided guidance and training to help local entrepreneurs use digital platforms in their respective business operations.
He said that as of now, 48 PEDi were operating in Selangor, and he called on all residents living around the Kanchong Darat PEDi to take advantage of the opportunities provided.
In fact, he said Mazliana’s success should also be an inspiration for others to undergo basic entrepreneurship training at PEDi and even be guided to make sales online on social media.
Meanwhile, Fahmi in a Facebook post said Mazliana’s success was due to the fact she had taken full advantage of the PEDi facilities made available.
“InsyaAllah, by the end of this year, the initiative that I have announced, namely ‘1 DUN 1 PEDi’ (one PEDi for each state constituency) will be achieved. Through this initiative, more digital entrepreneurs will be created,” he said.
