Road paving works in nine districts reach 25 pct, to end this month — Exco

SHAH ALAM, July 10 — The major road paving project in nine districts encompassing a distance of 94.9 km, which began last month, is now 25 per cent complete, said the state executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim.

He said the project involves 118 roads, including local authority roads, Public Works Department roads, Drainage And Irrigation Department roads, as well as sub-district roads, and is expected to be completed by the end of this month as scheduled.

“The large-scale road paving project involving 118 roads in the state is expected to be completed by the end of this month as scheduled,” Izham said on Twitter yesterday.

Starting on June 1, the major works have been carried out throughout Selangor to ensure good road conditions, thereby enhancing safety and reducing the risk of accidents.

The project includes 66 roads in Petaling, followed by Klang (39), Gombak (29), Hulu Langat (27), Sepang (19), Sabak Bernam (17), Kuala Langat (16), Kuala Selangor (11), and Hulu Selangor (eight).

To improve the efficiency of road maintenance in the state, the road damage complaint system has also been expanded to include Facebook to enhance service quality for Selangor’s road users.

This proposal is in addition to the use of Twitter and the state’s road maintenance app, operated by Infrasel Sdn Bhd (Infrasel).

On May 13th, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that Selangor has has received an additional RM2 million allocation from the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, to facilitate the implementation of road repair projects in rural areas throughout the state.

For its part, the state government has also allocated RM50 million for the major road paving project, which includes the maintenance and widening of state-managed roads and is aimed at comprehensively improving residents’ facilities in Selangor.

From 2021 until last year, Infrasel has carried out over 39,000 road paving works, with each public complaint regarding road damage, including potholes, being repaired within a 24-hour period.
