PETALING, July 16 — Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin graced the launch of the Rumah KanWork wakaf (endowment) project at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Cultural and Arts Centre at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), here today.

Her Royal Highness, who is also the Royal Patron of KanWork, officiated the event in conjunction with the KanWork Charity Hi-Tea 2023, which was also attended by the Selangor Women’s Welfare and Charity Organization (Pekawanis) president Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad.

Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin also received donation checks worth RM10,000 each from Tenaga Nasional Berhad and Premier Integrated Labs to be used for the association’s activities.

KanWork is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that actively provides information, emotional, and spiritual support to patients through support group activities, hospital and home visits, as well as through their helpline 1-800-228672.

KanWork chairman Dr Mazanah Muhamad said the NGO has acquired a house in Damansara Utama, which has been endowed for various activities, including a resource centre for cancer patients and survivors, a centre for education and a public facility.

“However, the funds for the renovation of the house, amounting to approximately RM200,000, are still insufficient and we hope that it will be operational by the end of this year,” she said.

She further stated that the hi-tea event allows the public to contribute to the Rumah KanWork wakaf project.

“KanWork actively implements various educational and awareness programmes for the community, focusing on early cancer prevention and promoting a healthy lifestyle,” she added.
