Batik Air to ply KL-Istanbul route from October — Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 — Batik Air will operate the Kuala Lumpur-Istanbul route from October, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In a Facebook post today after his virtual meeting with Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan last night, Anwar said Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd’s commitment to invest £200 million (RM1.1 billion) in Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport.

The prime minister was accompanied by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Kadir at the meeting.

Last year, Malaysia’s total trade with Turkiye rose by 12.6 per cent year-on-year to US$4.62 billion (RM21 billion), while total trade surplus was US$3.33 billion due to Turkiye’s palm oil and palm oil-based agricultural product imports.

Anwar said during the session, Erdogan expressed a clear commitment to visit Malaysia in the near future to strengthen the relationship between the two nations.

“We also agreed to meet face-to-face during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the United States, next month,” he said.
