MB seeks RM10 mln in damages, demands public apology from Sanusi over SMG project remarks

SHAH ALAM, Aug 9 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has formally issued a letter of demand to his Kedah counterpart Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

He seeks RM10 million in damages and a public apology, alleging that Sanusi made defamatory remarks during a ceramah in Jitra last week.

In a statement today, Amirudin gave Sanusi 48 hours to issue the apology. Additionally, he must also promise to refrain from making similar allegations in the future. Failure to comply will result in legal action through the courts.

The letter of demand was sent to Sanusi last week.

Amirudin added that such damaging accusations have marred the integrity and standing of the office of the Menteri Besar of Selangor.

This comes after Sanusi reiterated his allegations against Amirudin for supposed impropriety by his administration, involving the Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG) project.

Similarly, Berjaya Corporation Bhd founder and advisor Tan Sri Vincent Tan sent a letter of demand to Sanusi, requesting a public apology for making purportedly defamatory statements concerning the SMG project.

Additionally, both Tan and Berjaya Land Bhd are seeking RM200 million in compensation concerning the alleged defamatory claims.

Meanwhile, the project’s master developer, Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB), has initiated legal proceedings against Badrul Hisham Shaharin, commonly known as Chegubard Hisham, a pro-Perikatan Nasional (PN) activist and politician.

This is in relation to his statements, which were deemed defamatory and echoed similar claims made by Sanusi against Amirudin.
