MB wants civil servants to better communicate state’s policies

By Danial Dzulkifly

SHAH ALAM, Aug 22 — Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has urged civil servants to fully comprehend catalytic policies introduced by the administration, which are to foster a sustainable economic landscape.

He said this is crucial to ensure they are able to properly communicate the policies to the public.

In his inaugural address to civil servants after being sworn in for a second term as Menteri Besar, Amirudin said he found during his recent tour of the state that many Selangor residents either do not understand or were unaware of policies rolled out by the state government.

Among them, Amirudin said, is the five-year First Selangor Plan (RS-1), which focuses on the development of new regions in the state and places significant emphasis on economic growth and infrastructural advancements.

He said numerous other state initiatives remain unrecognised by the public, despite achieving their intended objectives.

“During the various tours organised by the state government, I journeyed from Sepang to Sabak Bernam and discovered many residents are unfamiliar with or misunderstand these policies.

“Clearly, these policies weren’t adequately communicated or made accessible to the public. It’s essential for civil servants, therefore, not only to know these policies by name, but to truly understand and grasp their essence. Only then can we effectively communicate their benefits to the public,” he said in his address to state civil servants at Dewan Jubli Perak at the state administration headquarters here this morning.

Commenting further on the aspect of communication, Amirudin emphasised the need for improved accountability and cohesion among the diverse government agencies.

He highlighted the importance of curtailing unnecessary bureaucracy, citing past instances where such impediments prevented public officials from efficiently delivering services to the people.

Amirudin confirmed the state administration will continue implementing all previously announced policies.

This includes the digitalisation of public services, he said.

“It’s not a question of whether we can or cannot do it; we are pressing ahead with the digitalisation of government services, aligning with our goal of establishing smart governance.

“In the end, there’s a pressing need for everyone, especially those at government service counters, to fully comprehend these policies as we will begin implementing them during this term,” he said.

Amirudin, along with 10 new executive councillors, were sworn in yesterday following the conclusion of the August 12 state elections.

The Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional alliance secured 34 out of 56 state seats in the polls.

Its closest rival, Perikatan Nasional, won the remaining 22 seats.
