PETALING JAYA, Aug 19 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has distributed over 10,000 Jalur Gemilang flags to licensed business premises in the areas under its jurisdiction.

Mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said the campaign, which began two weeks ago, aims to enhance the nation’s 66th Independence Day.

“So far, over 10,000 Jalur Gemilang have been distributed to licensed premises under MBPJ. We want Petaling Jaya to be adorned with rows of Jalur Gemilang during this month, as a symbolic expression of our love for our beloved country.

“In addition, MBPJ has raised two giant flags at Menara MBPJ, measuring 40 feet wide and 160 feet long, in an effort to enliven and foster a sense of love and pride for our homeland,” he said during the Semarak Jalur Gemilang event on MBPJ’s grounds yesterday.

To inculcate the spirit of patriotism, MBPJ is also organising two competitions; the Keceriaan Komuniti Merdeka 2023 contest with a cash prize of RM4,000, and the Kibar Jalur Gemilang contest with RM1,000 for the champion, RM750 for the runner-up, and RM500 for third place.

“MBPJ will evaluate participating premises like markets, stalls, halls, higher education institutes, as well as schools, and the results will be announced on September 16,” Mohamad Azhan said.

At the event, the mayor also inaugurated the placement of the Jalur Gemilang all MBPJ vehicles, encouraging the public to do the same.
