Teach ‘traitor’ Azmin a lesson, Anwar tells Hulu Kelang voters

SHAH ALAM, Aug 7 — Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wants Hulu Kelang voters to use the upcoming state election to send a message to Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali that traitors are not welcomed there.

In a post on social media site X, the prime minister said he is confident Azmin’s previous action of betraying the people’s mandate during the Sheraton Move in 2020 still lives fresh in Malaysians’ memories.

“Lest we forget the actions of a handful of individuals who were previously voted in by loyal supporters (and later betrayed that mandate). Now, they are pleading for support but do not have the courage to defend their (previous) seats.

“There is a difference between building a fortress and running away from one,” he said today.

His comment is in reference to Azmin’s decision to abandon his Bukit Antarabangsa state seat and instead contest in Hulu Kelang in the August 12 state poll.

To this end, Anwar said it is incumbent that voters use the upcoming election to put an end to Azmin’s political career.

“I am extremely confident that the rakyat and Hulu Kelang voters are sensitive to the issue of betrayal, which is not a small matter. In fact, it involves integrity and dignity.

“Hulu Kelang will teach and throw this shameless traitor (Azmin) into the ash heap of history.”

Azmin, who lost in the Gombak parliamentary seat in the last general election to Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, will face deputy Keadilan Women chief and Amirudin’s political secretary, Juwairiya Zulkifli, in Hulu Kelang.

In a campaign ceramah in the constituency last night, Anwar said he had handpicked Juwairiya for Hulu Kelang as he sees her as a capable candidate who should be able to deliver Harapan an easy victory.

“I gave an instruction to Amirudin, nominate Juwairiya. I want Hulu Kelang to teach (Azmin a lesson) similar to Gombak,” he told a crowd of some 2,000 Harapan and Barisan Nasional supporters.
