Company manager loses RM1.1 mln in online part-time work scam

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 — A company manager was scammed of RM1.1 million after she fell prey to a syndicate offering commission-based part-time work on social media, said police in a statement today.

Ampang Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail said the 52-year-old woman from Pandan Indah initially befriended a man on WhatsApp in early August.

“The suspect then offered her online part-time work. The victim was sent a link and instructed to buy things with the promise of commissions on the purchases and she claimed receiving a commission of USD100 (RM458) once.

“After that, she made purchases through 14 different bank accounts but has not received any commissions on them, resulting in losses amounting to RM1,100,431,” he said.

Mohd Azam advised the public to be more cautious in entertaining such suspicious offers and to verify all business transactions first before getting involved.
