Govt to launch Rahmah Rice Sales nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 — The Rahmah Rice Sales will be implemented nationwide, said Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Fuziah Salleh.

She said through this move, her ministry will sell imported rice at a special discount and ensure affordable prices for all consumers.

“At the Rahmah Mobile Sales programme, we (at the ministry) can sell five kilogrammes of imported rice for approximately RM13 to RM14.

“We will do our best to sell to consumers at such price as well,” she said after opening the seminar titled Today’s Malaysian E-Commerce and Consumer Protection Regulatory Framework: The Way Forward here today.

Fuziah said the subsidised price was part of the RM150 million allocation provided under the Rahmah Sales programme.

She said the Rahmah Rice Sales will adopt the same approach as the Rahmah Mobile Sales plan, which targets the needy, especially the B40 group.

When winding up the debate for her ministry on the 12th Malaysia Plan Mid-Term Review at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, Fuziah said the government is launching Rahmah Rice Sales to lighten the people’s burdens amid rising prices of imported rice and the shortage of local rice.
