Is this what Islam teaches us? — Jais slams propagators of slander

By Amar Shah Mohsen

SHAH ALAM, Sept 8 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) has issued a stern rebuke against those slandering the Selangor government and its religious bodies following a series of allegations against the state.

In a message delivered via today’s Friday sermon, Jais called for the immediate cessation of accusations, reminding all parties to fact-check before making statements to avoid causing distrust among the public towards religious institutions.

Among others, it noted there have been allegations the state and Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) are hindering efforts to propagate Islam via religious talks in mosques.

This is despite legal provisions and decisions stating that only those with proper credentials are allowed to deliver dakwah.

Separately, Jais took issue with slanders surrounding the state government’s decision to recalibrate private religious schools by requiring them to be registered, to ensure the safety of the institutions and comfort of all students.

“Instead, the government, Mais and Jais have been accused of closing down the schools,” it said.

Jais said there have also been accusations surrounding the state’s decision to reshuffle the postings of Kafa (religious and Fardu Ain class) teachers in Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor, which were done based on the needs of the districts.

“Are these wild accusations the way the Prophet has taught us to conduct ourselves?” it asked.

To this end, Jais said it is pertinent Muslims in the country abstain from hurling slander and always verify the authenticity of information they receive by referring to credible authorities and experts.

“Muslims must realise hurling slander will only divide society, leading to the destruction of ummah,” it said.

Today’s sermon was prepared by Jais’ Sermon Unit of the Mosque Management Division, and was delivered at all mosques across the state.
