KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 14,527 summonses to foreign motorcyclists in ‘Operasi Khas Motosikal 2023’ from September 1 to 20.
Its senior enforcement director Datuk Lokman Jamaan said the main offences detected were not having a valid licence with 6,268 summonses issued; no insurance (2,667); expired motor vehicle licence (2,657); and other technical offences (1,948).
“JPJ views this matter seriously, especially with regard to foreigners who ride motorcycles without a valid licence here because they will clearly not know the road rules and can cause danger to other road users,” he said during a press conference after the department’s integrated operations in Bangsar last night.
“We will not compromise with any road user who violates the laws, and stern action will be taken from time to time to raise road safety.”
He said that in a four-hour traffic operation, which ended at midnight, a total of 1,459 vehicles were inspected, and 854 summonses were issued for various offences, including 327 summonses for driving without a licence; expired motor vehicle licences (143); expired insurance (123); and registration numbers (80).
He also said that 98 summonses were issued for tinted windows; technical offences (36); exhaust pipes (18); high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps (four); and other offences (25).
Lokman added that during the operation, jointly conducted with the Immigration Department, a total of 19 foreign nationals — 17 men and two women — were detained for various immigration offences.
