Rahmah mobile sales receive encouraging response

MELAKA, Sept 14 — The Rahmah Mobile Sales which offers 20 essential items with a discount of up to 30 per cent at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) today received a favourable response as it helped people save on their daily expenditure.

One of the visitors, Seri Hartuti Baharudin, 40, from Bukit Rambai said that the sales allowed her to get daily supplies at a cheaper price than the market.

“In today’s sale, for example, we can get a can of milk for RM2, five kilogrammes (kg) of rice for RM13, five kg of oil for RM23, a chicken for RM10 and this is a big help for us, especially those who have many children.

“Of course, this programme is beneficial to people like us and we hope that it can be implemented more often and in other locations to make it easier for more people to enjoy the benefits,” she told reporters here today.

Norhayati Abdullah, 57, from Tanjung Minyak said she visited the programme with three other friends after learning about it from social media.

“Indeed, this Rahmah Mobile Sales certainly helps consumers like us to save even more especially during the middle of the month when we need to control spending.

“The initiative introduced by the government is very beneficial and helps the people. We hope that this can be expanded and held in open areas, in remote villages far from the city so that more people can have access to it,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Living Costs (KPDN) Melaka director Norena Jaafar said the initiative will be held on a larger scale through the Mega Rahmah Tour on Sept 30.

She said 30 local entrepreneurs and traders including wholesalers will be involved to enable the public to get basic necessities at reasonable prices such as eggs, flour, packet cooking oil and rice with a discount of up to 35 per cent.

“Apart from that, there are also food stalls that offer Rahmah dishes priced at RM5 for each meal in addition to various other programmes.

“Apart from that, Melaka Malaysian Handicrafts will also offer special prices for batik clothing, especially for civil servants, and we are targeting about 30,000 to 40,000 visitors to make this programme a success,” she said.
