Selangor successfully lowers living costs with sales programme

By Fitri Hazim Hazam

SHAH ALAM, Sept 22 — A sales programme offering 30% discounts from market prices has helped Selangor assist residents affected by rising living costs.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the Jualan Ehsan Rakyat (JER) is an intervention strategy by the state government to overcome chicken and chicken egg shortages.

“The sales programme by the state government is aimed at reducing burdens and living costs of the people, who have been affected for months and years.

“During my Merdeka speech last year, I announced this sales programme to manage the shortage of two essential goods, which are chicken and eggs.

“In the last festive season, supply was consistently sufficient compared with our experience in 2022 and 2021. This proves we can act with resilience and be agile (with solutions),” he said.

He said this during the Jualan Ehsan Rakyat appreciation ceremony and Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) new logo launch at Dewan Orkid Wisma PKPS here yesterday.

Also present were State Secretary Dato’ Haris Kasim, Selangor State Legislative Assembly Speaker Lau Weng San, PKPS chief executive officer Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi, and state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim.

Amirudin expressed his appreciation for PKPS on its diligent efforts to help the people obtain food essentials through the JER programme.

“Around 10 per cent to 15 per cent of PKPS savings have been used for this sales programme.

“As informed by the agriculture executive councillor, RM40 million has been spent not only on direct handouts of essential goods, but also on logistics at nine locations where PKPS staff work every day and visit 2,850 locations annually.

“This is definitely a proud achievement,” he said.
