SEPANG, Sept 17 — The state government is looking to introduce a culture and arts programme from Selangor to Brunei, via the Silang Budaya programme next year.

State executive councillor for culture Borhan Aman Shah said it would showcase the Orang Asli art heritage of the Mah Meri tribe globally.

“When we mention the Orang Asli, they may not be there (in Brunei). After this, we will discuss with Tourism Selangor to bring the Mah Meri to Brunei; this is our plan.

“We will bring Selangor’s heritage and culture to Brunei next year. Hopefully, it will become a reality,” he said.

Borhan was speaking at the pre-declaration ceremony of Kajang satay as Selangor’s heritage food, at the Avani Sepang Goldcoast Resort in Pantai Bagan Lalang yesterday.

The inaugural Silang Budaya programme was first held from June 9 to June 13 in Indonesia, to introduce Selangor’s art and heritage to foreign countries.

During its course, the state government introduced cempuling music and other forms of the native music of Selangor, including cultural performances, dialogue sessions, and visits to famous heritage centres in the country.

Following the programme at the Malaysia Hall in Jakarta, the Indonesian government has stated it intends to make a return visit to Selangor to learn more about cempuling and Selangor’s native music.
