Teng you, Chang Khim: Exco credits predecessor for aiding state’s development

By Danial Dzulkifly

SHAH ALAM, Sept 7 — Former executive councillor Dato’ Teng Chang Khim was given a special mention at the Selangor Aviation Show (SAS) 2023 today, for his role in helping the advancement of the state’s trade and industry landscape.

His successor, state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han, said Teng’s commitment in carrying out his duties diligently during his tenure has helped laid the foundations upon which Selangor’s aviation industry has been able to thrive.

“I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the efforts of my predecessor, Teng, who played a pivotal role in advancing the trade and industry landscape in Selangor throughout his tenure as the executive councillor.

“His dedication and hard work has laid the foundation for the progress we see today in the aerospace and aviation industry in Selangor. Thank you again, Teng,” he said in his speech during the opening ceremony of SAS 2023, earlier today.

Teng was also present at the event. Other notable attendees include Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Liew Chin Tong, and other senior state government officials.

Teng had been a state assemblyman for six consecutive terms since 1995, prior to his decision to quit active politics ahead of the recent state election in August.

The former DAP lawmaker also served in multiple portfolios in the state executive council from 2013 to 2023.

Meanwhile, Ng said the state government will collaborate closely with industry players and the Federal administration, in a bid to boost the state’s civil aviation sector.

Building on the momentum of SAS 2023, he said initiatives like the annual air show can help position aviation as a key economic driver for Selangor.

This will be achieved via the offering of high-impact jobs through advanced skills training, sustainable development and strategic collaborations.

“We aspire to continue this momentum by working hand in hand with industry players, fostering an environment that encourages innovation, collaboration, and growth.

“The state government is ever ready to work with agencies such as National Aerospace Industry Corporation (Naico), as well as associations or representatives such as the Malaysian Aerospace Industry Association (Maia).

“Let SAS be the proof of our commitment in shaping the future of the aviation industry, both locally and globally,’’ Ng said.

Invest Selangor Bhd, the organiser of SAS 2023, has also undertaken numerous aerospace trade missions to continuously champion Selangor’s aerospace industry at the international stage.

“This year alone, our ventures to Singapore, Canada, the United Kingdom and France have garnered significant interest from potential investors. We’re optimistic about formalising substantial collaborations in the near future,” he said.

At today’s opening ceremony, SAS 2023 already celebrated the signing of six memoranda of understanding (MoU) between state and civil aviation entities. More MoU signings are expected over the three-day event, which ends Saturday.

Now in its third edition, SAS 2023 is expected to welcome over 20,000 visitors, with various activities in store, including static aircraft displays, forums, presentations by 65 distinguished speakers and a career fair.

Ng said the air show will see potential transactions reaching up to RM700 million in value.

“As part of our commitment to the sustainable development agenda, we have also tailored our forums to address issues of reduction of carbon emissions from aircraft via the introduction of sustainable aviation fuel, talent gap and reskilling through quality education, reduced inequalities, and many more,’’ he said.
