SHAH ALAM, Oct 27 — Shah Alam Deputy Mayor Cheremi Tarman has been sworn in as its acting mayor, effective today.
He took the oath of office before Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) members at its headquarters just over nine months after being appointed deputy mayor.
The 59-year-old replaces Nor Fuad Abdul Hamid, who has been appointed as the Transport Ministry’s deputy secretary-general (management).
Cheremi had previously served on other local councils, including as the Selayang Municipal Council‘s deputy president from August 2020 to December 2022.
Speaking at the MBSA’s full board meeting after the swearing-in, Cheremi said as the acting mayor, he would continue Fuad’s legacy and vowed to dedicate most of the council’s allocation to community service work.
“We will act promptly for matters that have not been implemented yet. We will review and enhance those that have been implemented, especially concerning the liveable city concept.
“Residents desire comfortable living areas. My focus is on basic services like road repairs, streetlights, waste management, landscaping and public comfort,” he was quoted by The Star as saying.
Cheremi added that any improvements will be discussed at the central administrative level with council members.
He also thanked the state government for entrusting him with the role of acting mayor.
Cheremi will serve in the position for up to a maximum of six months.
