KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 — Selangor has officially launched its Demand-Responsive Transit (DRT) service made available in key areas in the state, said Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
Emphasising the state government’s determination to upgrade its transportation framework, he said the initiative, which operates under the Selangor Mobility programme, will receive more funding in the upcoming 2024 Selangor Budget.
“Preliminary project trials in Kinrara, Gombak, and Ampang have received promising feedback.
“With this momentum, we are inclined to increase Selangor Mobility’s funding in the upcoming (2024) budget,” he said at a press conference.
Earlier, Amirudin delivered a speech at the opening of the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC) 2023, in conjunction with the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2023 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today.
Scheduled for official operations in November, the DRT service will commence in densely populated areas, including Ampang, Puchong, Subang Jaya, and Petaling Jaya.
More information on the service, including operational details, will be announced soon.
On June 15, he said the DRT pilot project is expected to run for six months, from July to December, under the first phase of Selangor Mobility.
The project, managed by the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) and overseen by Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), will see DRT service address public transport accessibility in some areas.
This includes the limitations of the existing Smart Selangor buses, which cannot access narrow and highly congested routes.
Last year, Amirudin announced a RM25 million allocation to strengthen the public transport system under the Selangor Mobility programme, with RM22 million allocated to the state’s 11 local authorities to continue operating the Smart Selangor buses.
